Gersz, Casimir J.

Casimir Joseph Gersz, age 85, beloved husband of Rose Zatorski Gersz, passed away Sunday evening, April 19th after a brief illness. Born in New Haven on February 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Ignatius and Mary Chilenski Gersz of East Haven. Cas attended St. Stanislaus School where he was an altar boy and was an active member of St. Stanislaus Church, including the Holy Name Society and the Holy Name Bowling League. Following his graduation from Boardman Trade School, where he became a tool and die maker, Cas enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country in WWII. He employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a foreman and retired in 1982 after 28 years. Cas enthusiastically volunteered his time and talents coaching
his boys David and Mark and his grandson Peter at the Foxon Recreation League. He was President of the East Haven Gridiron Club in 1972-73. He enjoyed gardening and UCONN Girls Basketball but by far his greatest passion was his love for his wife Rose and is family. Nothing made him happier than to spend time with his grandchildren and all of them adored their Grandpa, Papi and Papa. In addition to his wife of 60 years, Cas is survived by his loving sons and daughters, David Gersz of East Haven, Mark Gersz and his wife Pam of Killingworth, Pamela Gersz Losonci and her husband Tom of Trumbull and Gail Gersz Golden and her husband Myles of Southport. His grandchildren are Peter Gersz of East Haven, Jessie, Meryl and Luke Gersz of Killingworth, Shane and Josh Losonci of Trumbull, and Taylor, Austin, Olivia and Ava of Southport. He was predeceased by his grandson Matthew Gersz of East Haven. He is also survived by his brother Tom Gersz of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his brothers John and Frank Gersz and sister Mary Gersz Gorecki.

His funeral will leave the LUPINSKI FUNERAL HOME 821 State Street FRIDAY morning at 9:15 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Stanislaus Church at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors in All Saints Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on THURSDAY from 5 until 8 p.m. Holy Name Society services Thursday evening at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Domincan Nuns of Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 11 Race Hill Road, North Guilford, CT 06437.
